CURRENT EVENTS

Congressman Kevin McCarthey introduced a new bill 'the Clergy Act' where ministers who had opted out of social security may be able to opt back in! An application must be filed by a minister no later than the due date of the federal income tax return (including extensions) for the minister's 2nd taxable year beginning after December 31, 2020. You do not have to pay retroactive social security taxes for years before the opt-in date.  This bil has not passed yet. i will inform you when it does.

Form 1023 (Application for Nonprofit status)
Beginning Jan. 31, 2020, applications for recognition of exemption on Form 1023 must be submitted electronically online at www.pay.gov. The IRS will provide a 90 day grace period during which it will continue to accept paper versions of Form 1023. (Rev. 12-2017)

Dan Brubaker is an AFSP credentialed tax preparer with the IRS.  He is in his third year with us and is in the office year round to help with your tax and bookkeeping needs.
